Computer instructors were a common sight at private training centers or government-run vocational programs. After finishing the course, participants usually went home with a little souvenir: a 3.5" floppy disk or, in later years, a flash drive.
What did they learn? Basic stuff—getting to know the parts of a PC, how to operate it, and the correct way to turn the computer on and off. Yep, turning it on and off was part of the curriculum!
Fast forward to today, and computers are everywhere. Pretty much every household has at least one. No need to sign up for a course anymore—most people can figure things out on their own. Since the 2010s, laptops have become the go-to device for students and professionals, thanks to their portability.
Btw, that bit about someone holding the mouse upside down? Totally true. It actually happened to a friend of mine while he was teaching basic computer skills to a group of elderly learners. Real story!
